Objective
Run each workload in the most suitable format: a virtual machine for full and non-Linux systems, an LXC container for lightweight Linux services.
Architecture
The inventory of October 17, 2026 counts 33 workloads: 11 KVM virtual machines and 22 LXC containers. The virtual machines host full systems (Windows Server, Windows 11, Linux Mint, TrueNAS, NethServer 8, Immich, Proxmox Backup Server); the containers host lightweight Linux services.
Details
Inventory as of October 17, 2026
| Type | Count | vCPUs assigned | RAM assigned | Disk assigned |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Virtual machines | 11 | 2–12 | 6–16 GiB | 32–502 GiB |
| LXC containers | 22 | 1–12 | 1–8 GiB | 4–40 GiB |
The ranges show the minimum and maximum across the workloads of each type. These are assigned resources, not consumed ones: for example, an availability check and a reverse proxy use on average about 220 MiB of memory out of 1 GiB assigned, and a DNS instance about 580 MiB out of 2 GiB.
How they are split
- Virtual machines: full or non-Linux operating systems (Windows Server, Windows 11), appliances (TrueNAS), a Linux desktop, backup (Proxmox Backup Server), and the heavier platforms (NethServer 8, Immich).
- LXC containers: lightweight Linux services — DNS, reverse proxy, monitoring, identity, security, network documentation, and cluster management tools. They share the host kernel, start in a few seconds, and use little memory.
